No motive in double murder-suicide

"For more than a month, investigators have tried to find a clue or get a sense of what led to the double murder-suicide of a family of three inside a quiet suburban Spring Garden Township home.

"After reviewing medical and personal records and interviewing friends and family members, police said Wednesday, they do not know why John Goodman - a 1986 graduate of South Western High School - killed his wife, Julia, and their 2-year-old son, Langon, before he committed suicide Nov. 2.

"There was no suicide note. Drug and alcohol toxicology tests came back negative.

"A journal Julia Goodman kept did not shed any light on problems.

"There was no history of domestic abuse or police calls to the Goodman home in the 1300 block of Clover Lane. There were no witnesses. The bodies were found 12 hours after the shooting.

"'The only people who truly know what happened can't tell us. They are dead,' Spring Garden Township Police Chief George Swartz said."
