Cop Kills Girlfriend, Self

"FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, PA — State police believe the shooting deaths of two people late Sunday night in Franklin Township were a murder-suicide.

"Police said Pittston Township police Officer Matthew Brokenshire, 24, shot his girlfriend, Caitlin McGuire, 24, in the head at 2297 W. Eighth St. in Franklin Township and then turned the gun on himself.

"Authorities said Brokenshire and McGuire knew each other for years and graduated together from Dallas High School. They had been dating for approximately 10 months.

"State police at Wyoming said Brokenshire and McGuire got in an argument Sunday around 11:30 p.m. at her home on West Eighth Street. The argument escalated and Brokenshire pulled a 9 mm handgun and fired, shooting her in the head.

"McGuire was pronounced dead at the scene, while Brokenshire died shortly after arrival at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center in Plains Township.

"Authorities said McGuire was a graduate student at Marywood University."
