SWAT Standoff Completes Murder/Suicide
"ANNISTON, AL — Law-enforcement officials have identified the second body found following a four-hour standoff at 1785 Gate 5 Road Wednesday. Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown identified the man, found dead in a mobile home behind the primary house on the Alexandria property, as 35-year-old John Allen Payne.
"Payne was the uncle to 26-year-old Jonathan Singleton, the man involved in the standoff with at least seven law-enforcement agencies, family members said.
"Singleton was also found dead late Wednesday. Firefighters located his body on the floor of the house in front of the trailer. Singleton had barricaded himself inside the house when police tried to serve him with a warrant earlier that day.
"Singleton was wanted on a failure-to-appear warrant out of Etowah County and was being sought by Calhoun and Etowah county deputies.
"The preliminary coroner’s report suggests Singleton shot himself sometime during the standoff with police, although exactly when that happened remains unclear.
"Also unclear is how and when Payne died in the mobile home, located on a hill behind the primary home."
