Confrontation With Cops Prompts Shooter To Kill Himself
"TOBACCOVILLE, NC — The husband of a 42-year-old woman took his own life at a home in Raleigh just hours after his wife was found dead of a gunshot wound in the couple's Spainhour Mill Road home on Thursday evening, Forsyth County deputies said.
"Deputies said the body of Pamela Burgess Hurlocker was found at about 11 p.m. by a friend who broke into the house to check on the woman.
"Chief Deputy Brad Stanley said the friend had spoken with Hurlocker earlier in the day and was concerned when she couldn't reach her on the phone.
"When the woman's husband and 7-year-old daughter couldn't be located by officers, deputies broadcast an alert to be on the lookout for the two.
"After figuring out that he might be in Raleigh, Raleigh police went to an address and found 49-year-old Alan Claude Hurlocker, Stanley said.
"Stanley said Hurlocker, who has relatives in Raleigh, was returning to the house as officers were leaving about 12:30 a.m.
"After putting the girl in the house, Stanley said, Hurlocker returned and pulled a gun from his waistband, then shot himself following a brief standoff with the officers.
"Stanley said the girl was safe and didn't witness her father's death. She's been placed into the custody of other relatives, deputies said."
