"WINDSOR, NC — Sheriff's deputies in Bertie County are investigating what they're calling a murder-suicide.
"Two people were found dead in a home on Highway 13, just north of Windsor. An adult male and adult female were found dead.
"They've been identified as 87-year-old Frank Cowan and his wife, 86-year-old Dorothy `Dot` Cowan. Family members said they were both very ill—Frank suffering from pneumonia and Dot suffering from Alzheimer's Disease—prior to this incident.
"Frank and Dot were married 66 years and had four children; they were also high school sweethearts, family members said. Frank was a volunteer firefighter with Bertie County for almost 50 years. The family added the two were a very close and inseparable couple, always holding hands as they strolled through town.
"Their daughter, Dianne Movley, wanted people to know how they loved one another.
"`He just didn't want to leave my momma alone,` Movley said."
