Shooter May Survive To Get Charged With Murder

"ANAWALT, WV — A man shot his wife to death in McDowell County Wednesday afternoon before critically wounding himself, authorities said.

"Robert Wayne Johnson, 68, of Anawalt, shot his wife and then shot himself, according to Deputy R.L. Blevins of the McDowell County Sheriff's Department.

"Deputies were called to a residence in the Anawalt area just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

"County 911 dispatchers said Johnson's brother called authorities and said that his sister-in-law was shot and that Johnson had shot himself.

"The woman, whose name has not been released, died at the scene, dispatchers said. Johnson was being transported by helicopter to a hospital in Bluefield. Blevins said if Johnson survived, he would be charged in the slaying."
