Street Dispute Leaves Two Dead

"MERCED, CA — A woman in her early 20s was fatally shot in Merced Tuesday in an apparent domestic dispute, and the suspected shooter fled to Fresno and killed himself, the Merced County Sheriff's Department reported.

"Deputies responded to the 400 block of East Gerard Avenue in Merced at 4 p.m. and found the victim, an Asian woman, dead from several gunshot wounds, according to sheriff's spokesman Tom MacKenzie.

"Deputies said the victim and suspect had a dispute in the street. The suspect drove away, then returned and shot the victim over the shoulder of a witness, then drove off. Sheriff Mark Pazin said a neighbor tried to intercede, but was unsuccessful.

"The suspect turned up near Sierra Vista and Shields avenues in Fresno. He told a family member what he'd done, then shot himself in the head, Pazin said."
