Two Dead, One Critical In Attempted Double Murder/Suicide

"COLORADO SPRINGS, CO — Two people were killed and another was in critical condition after a shooting Friday evening in south Colorado Springs that police are investigating as a possible murder-suicide.

"A man with a head wound was dead on the sidewalk in front of a home in the 300 block of East Las Vegas Street. Police said a woman was found dead inside a nearby house. Another victim was hospitalized with apparent gunshot wounds.

"Police said all three are thought to be members of the same family. Names of the victims have not been released.

"Just after 5 p.m., neighbors heard several gunshots.

"Neighbor Tamara Egley ran out of her home when she heard the first burst of gunfire. She heard another shot and turned to see an man falling to the sidewalk.

"`I saw him take a couple of breaths and that was it,` she said. `He wasn’t moving.`

"Egley then looked in the backyard of a home across the street and saw a man wearing a bloody shirt on the ground and moaning in pain.

"The man, who was apparently wounded in his abdomen, was carried away in an ambulance. Police Lt. Kirk Wilson said the man remained in critical condition.

"As officers strung up police tape to block Las Vegas Street between Weber and Royer streets, the dead man, with gray hair and clad in a white shirt, lay on the sidewalk amid a pool of blood.

"Wilson said detectives think they have identified everyone involved in the shooting. Police were not looking for a gunman. A pistol was recovered."
