"I'm Going To Shoot Myself"
"DALLAS, TX — Two police agencies were investigating a shooting case that began in Dallas and ended with a suicide in DeSoto Saturday evening.
"According to preliminary information, Dallas police said it appears a man shot his wife at a residence in the 2900 block of Midway Plaza Boulevard in Southeast Oak Cliff around 4:45 p.m.
"The unnamed woman was reported in serious condition at Baylor University Medical Center.
"Investigators said the man then drove himself to DeSoto, where police in that city encountered him about 45 minutes later in the 1200 block of Post Oak Lane, in the driveway of a family member.
"`He had contacted a neighbor saying, 'I'm going to shoot myself,' and the neighbor called it in for us,` said DeSoto police spokeswoman Cpl. Melissa Franks.
"The man acted quickly and did not respond to police who were trying to speak with him.
"`He made no move to threaten us, so we were not needing to engage him,` Franks said.
`He did it very quickly upon us making verbal contact with him.`
"The man, who was in his 40s, shot himself in the chest and was pronounced dead."
