Two Dead In "Knife Incident"

"HUGER, SC — In what authorities said was a murder-suicide by knife, a married couple died Friday from stab wounds.

"The names of the deceased have not been released, pending notification of next of kin.

"Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Dan Moon said a woman was dead in a home at 458 Berk Road when authorities arrived just after noon. A man found in the home was alive but bleeding badly, and died after being taken to a hospital.

"The couple sustained their wounds in a confrontation that began with an argument, Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said. `We are calling it a homicide-suicide, with the homicide victim being the woman,` Salisbury said.

"He said a knife believed to have made all of the wounds has been recovered.

"The couple actually lived in a nearby home and not the one where the fatal wounds were inflicted, Salisbury said. He said the home where the stabbings took place was the home of the couple's relatives.

"Moon said late in the afternoon that investigators were still working the scene, in a home off of a dirt road that connects to S.C. Highway 41, and at the edge of the Francis Marion National Forest.

"Moon said investigators determined that the only two people involved in the knife incident were the couple that died. There no other suspects to pursue, he assured.

"`We believe that the only people involved were the two who are deceased,` he said.
Moon said someone reportedly flagged down a car near S.C. Highway 41 to get word of the incident to the sheriff’s office."
