Shooter And Victim Survive Attempted Murder/Suicide


"SEYMOUR, TN — The Sevier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a double shooting that has left one person hospitalized. According to Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals, deputies responded to a 911 call to a house on Dinkins Road in Seymour Sunday night at approximately 9:39 p.m. to investigate a domestic shooting.

"Officers arrived on the scene and found Dorothy J. Blankenship suffering from minor injuries she sustained when he ex-husband shot at her twice with a pistol, grazing her ears, after the pair got into a verbal altercation

"Dorothy Blankenship told investigators she and her ex-husband, Teddy Blankenship, got into an argument and Teddy pulled a .22 caliber revolver and shot at her. Teddy then went into the bedroom and shot himself. Officers found Blankenship lying face down on a mattress in a rear bedroom suffering from a gunshot wound to his right temple.

"Blankenship was transported to U. T. Hospital via Lifestar Helicopter where he is being treated at this time. The shooting is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division and charges are pending until the conclusion of the investigation."
