Jumper Was "Person Of Interest"

"EAST HAMPTON, CT — A 22-year-old man identified as a "person of interest" in the death of an East Hampton woman apparently killed himself Sunday night by jumping five stories from a parking garage at the Mohegan Sun casino in Uncasville.

"Police on Monday identified Oscar Wojtanowski as someone they were investigating in connection with the death of Jaclyn Fitzgerald, 24, whose body was found Friday in her home at 30 Namonee Trail in East Hampton. Her body is at the state medical examiner's office. No cause of death was released Monday.

"Wojtanowski's body is also at the state medical examiner's office in Farmington, awaiting an autopsy, officials said.

"State police are investigating what they termed an untimely death at the Riverview Parking Complex at the casino about 8:15 p.m. Sunday. Although police have not identified the man, people familiar with the investigation said it was Wojtanowski. State police said the person jumped from the garage's fifth floor and was found dead near the garage's entrance.

"Police collected evidence at Fitzgerald's home after finding her body there on Friday. Public records list Wojtanowski as having lived at Fitzgerald's home in the past. Reimondo said that Wojtanowski was at times Fitzgerald's boyfriend.

"`It was a rocky relationship,` Reimondo said.

Stabbed While They Slept

"WAHOO, NE — The deaths of three rural Ithaca residents were due to murder-suicide.

"On Monday afternoon, Saunders County Attorney Scott Tingelhoff reported that Toni Hindman, 45, used a knife to kill both her daughter and her husband before turning the blade on herself.

"`We have conclusive evidence that all three victims died of knife wounds,` said Tingelhoff.

"The bodies of Hindman, her 47-year-old husband, Tim, and 12-year-old daughter, Ardena, were found in their rural Ithaca home on Feb. 20 by firefighters responding to a fire call at the home.

"According to Tingelhoff, final toxicology reports were still pending. However, he said enough corroborating evidence has been found to determine roughly what happened.

"Research logs on the family’s computer show that someone in the home had been researching medications for depression and methods of suicide.

"Additionally, purchase records showed that Toni Hindman had purchased the six-inch hunter’s filleting knife she used in the killings on Saturday, Feb. 19.

"Although he did not have a complete chronology of the incident, Tingelhoff said that the investigation has determined that all of the deaths occurred sometime between late Saturday night and the early hours of Sunday morning.

"Tingelhoff said that Timothy and Ardena Hindman were both killed in their beds. Toni Hindman then moved to the living room area of the home, where she appears to have intentionally set the fire. She then turned the knife on herself.

"No suicide note has been found. However, Tingelhoff said that interviews with family members indicated that Toni Hindman may have been depressed.

"While he was unaware of any immediate stressors, Tingelhoff noted that the couple did lose a three-year-old daughter, Jessica, to cancer about five years ago.

"`In talking with the family, that was a great loss,` said Tingelhoff."

One Dead, One Critical On US 25

"RICHMOND, KY — A family grieves as they struggle with the mystery surrounding the final moments before a double shooting claimed one life and left another in critical condition.

"Sunday night Richmond police found 53-year-old James Thacker and his nephew, 37-year-old Daniel Joe Thacker both with gunshot wounds. The two were in a parked car off the side of U.S.-25 South. James Thacker was pronounced dead at the scene. Daniel Thacker was rushed to the hospital.

"Family members say they don't understand what happened and don't know if they ever will.

"On Monday Richmond Police said they were trying to determine whether the incident was an attempted murder-suicide or double suicide."

"Jimmy Joe's step-daughter, Tasya Gibson says neither explanation makes sense to her.

"`The suicide part, no because he just had a love for life and as far as the homicide part of it, the murder part of it, I can't see that part either. None makes sense.`

"Gibson says relatives described her step-father and his nephew, Daniel Thacker as in good spirits shortly before they were found. `Didn't seem like the type of person that would ever do anything to hurt Jimmy Joe,` Gibson said referring to Daniel Thacker, `He was a really shy, like soft-hearted, soft-spoken... never seen him angry.`

"Now the family worries Daniel Thacker may never be able to answer their questions.

"`The last I heard he was on life-support and pretty much brain dead,` Gibson said.

"Richmond Police say they do not believe anyone else was involved with the shootings."

Who Shot Who? Confusion Surrounds Texas Murder/Suicide

"SAN ANTONIO, TX — An argument between a father and son Saturday morning on the Northwest Side turned into an apparent murder-suicide attempt.

"Preliminary evidence shows the father shot his son, then turned the gun on himself, police Sgt. Tonja Brandt said.

"Several other local news outlets reported the son shot the father, then shot himself, but the reason for the discrepancy was unclear Saturday night.

"Brandt said she was unsure what sparked the dispute.

"The medical examiner’s office identified the father as William Patterson, 69, and said he died at the scene.

"His son, in his 20s, was taken to University Hospital in critical condition, but there was no further information on his status as of late Saturday.

"The shooting occurred about 11:30 a.m. at the father’s home on 7731 Crooked Brook. Police said the mother was not home at the time.

"Neighbors said the family members tended to keep themselves, though some recalled a troubled relationship between Patterson and his three sons.

"Joe Hyatt, 66, who lives on the street, said he found the news unbelievable. He remembered Patterson often argued with his sons, but described the father as a Christian and a veteran who went to church on Sundays and knew how to tell a good joke.

"`He was not a violent person,` said Hyatt, who said he was friends with Patterson for more than 20 years. `He was humorous and fun to be around and he loved his family.`

"`Unfortunately, the world is filled with bad things,` he said. `Now all we can do is pray for the family.`"
