2 Dead, 3 Injured, 1 Missing After Shooting, Fire

"HOLLYWOOD, CA — Police say a shooting rampage and subsequent fire at a home in East Hollywood was likely the result of a domestic dispute.

"Two people, an unidentified man and the suspected gunman, were found dead inside the burned home in the 500 block of North Harvard Boulevard.

"Police say the suspected gunman also suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Three shooting victims were rescued from the nearly 100-year-old home, which was subsequently engulfed by a fast-moving fire.

"It all began when LAPD officers and Los Angeles Firefighters responded to a reported shooting at 12:41 p.m. Thursday.

"The LAPD assumed the shooter was inside, but they did not know if he was hiding.

"Firefighters put on bulletproof vests, and police then escorted them inside the home for what is known as a "rapid extraction" of victims.

"They rescued three people, a 34-year-old man and two 38-year-old women, from the front entry area of the house.

"Newlyweds Laurel and Daniel Choy shared the house with three other people.

"Laurel was shot four times in the chest and once in hand.

"She is now listed in stable condition at County USC Medical Center.

"Her husband, Daniel, was not home at the time.

"38-year-old Shaunna Heth, the possible target of the gunman, was also shot. She is reportedly the suspect's ex-girlfriend.

"Roommate Brad Draconis remains unaccounted for. He was not answering his cell phone.

"Authorities have not released the identity of the man who was hospitalized.

"They have also not released the identity of the gunman or the male victim.

"Both of their bodies were found inside the burned-out home.

"The fire was allowed to burn itself out, after authorities determined the flames were too big and too hot for anyone else to have survived.

"Hose lines were placed on each side of the home, as were armed LAPD Officers to protect firefighters.

"The fire was extinguished after about 2 hours and 30 minutes.

"One neighbor said she saw a young man with a ponytail, dressed in black, wearing a hooded sweatshirt and carrying a duffel bag.

"He banged on the door of the house and then went inside, she said. She heard gunshots shortly after.

"The fire and shooting prompted the evacuation of Harvard Elementary School as well several nearby homes.

"There were no reported injuries to LAFD or LAPD personnel."

  1. It took them a couple of days to announce that the shooter had killed himself.
