One Cop Dead, One Cop Injured In Botched Murder/Suicide

"BEVERLY, MA — A Hamilton Police Sergeant was found dead on Friday night after he became the main suspect in the shooting of another police officer.

"Beverly Police were called to Enon Street before 6 p.m. on Friday after reports of a person being shot near the Eastern Bank. When they arrived, they found off-duty Beverly Police Officer Jason Lantych suffering from serious injuries outside of Starbucks.

"In a Friday night press conference, Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett alleged that Hamilton Police Sergeant Ken Nagy shot off-duty Beverly officer Jason Lantych and then fled the scene. He asked for the public's help finding Nagy, calling the police sergeant armed and dangerous.

"The shooting prompted a statewide manhunt for Nagy which eventually ended back at the scene. Nagy was found dead inside his car just before 11 p.m. Friday night. The Essex District Attorney's office confirmed Nagy died in an apparent suicide.

"Investigators do believe Nagy and Lantych knew each other, but would not comment on details surrounding the altercation.

"Lantych underwent surgery on Friday night. His condition is unknown."
