Cryptic Call Leads To Gruesome Discovery
"UPPER DARBY, PA — After receiving a cryptic call from his father Wednesday afternoon, a young man rushed home to find his parents unconscious in their bed with scarves tied tightly around their necks.
"His mother was pronounced dead at the scene and his father was clinging to life at Delaware County Memorial Hospital after being placed in a medically induced coma, according to Upper Darby police Superintendent Michael Chitwood.
"Police were investigating the incident as a possible murder-suicide attempt.
"`One of the sons was driving a cab in Philadelphia when he got a call at around 1:15 from his father telling him to come home right away,` Chitwood said. `His voice was garbled and he sounded like he was in some type of distress.
"`When he gets home, he finds his mom and dad in bed, fully clothed with scarves tied tightly around their necks. They both appeared to be dead. He took the scarves off and called 911.`
"When paramedics arrived, they found the father still had a pulse and transported him to Delaware County Memorial Hospital.
"The couple had lived at the corner of Winfield and Miller avenues for more than five years, according to neighbors.
"Police did not release their names, but the owners of the home identified the man as Gurinder Singh, who was still listed in critical condition as of 10:15 p.m. Wednesday.
"An autopsy is expected to be performed on his 47-year-old wife either Thursday or Friday, according to the Delaware County Medical Examiner’s office."
