Witnesses Say Gunman Found Dead

"FREMONT, NE — A woman is in the hospital and a manhunt is over after witnesses say, the suspected gunman was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot after an alleged domestic dispute.

"It happened around 8:30 p.m. near 1st and Union in Fremont.

"Witnesses say the two involved were in a relationship.

"Police say the suspect shot the woman in the face and fled the scene. She was taken to the hospital. No other information has been released on her condition.

"Shortly after the shooting call, police evacuated the area because they believed a gunman was on the loose.

"They now say the suspect is `no longer a threat,` but have yet to confirm he is deceased.

"The Omaha Police helicopter assisted in the search. Witnesses hear from police that thermal imaging equipment spotted the gunman behind the house where the initial shooting happened. They say he was found dead."
