Man Commits Suicide, Wife Found Murdered

"CLEVELAND, OH — A Cleveland man apparently committed suicide on Saturday and his wife was later found dead at a Mayfield Heights apartment.

"On Monday morning the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified the woman as Pamela R. Mays.

"According to the police report from the Cleveland Police Department:

"On Saturday at 6:51 p.m. police responded to a report of a suicidal male at 18017 Hiller Ave. The caller told police a man threatened suicide then locked himself in his home. The caller then heard two gunshots.

"Police arrived and met with the caller. She told police her son, identified as 44-year-old Darryle Burke, was in the driveway with a black pistol and told her, `Leave me alone or I’ll do it in front of you!`

"Police entered the home and discovered Burke with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the right side of his head with a `small revolver pistol` at his feet. The gun was found to be loaded with `four live rounds and two spent shell casings.`

"The 911 caller told police that Burke had suspected that his adult son was sleeping with his wife. Burke had also told a family member `that he had done something he couldn’t take back.`

"Police made several attempts to contact Burke’s wife, but were unsuccessful.

"In assisting Cleveland Police, the Mayfield Heights Police Department checked the apartment of Mays, 44, at 1424 Golden Gate Blvd.

"Police found the rear patio door forced open and Mays `deceased with a gunshot wound to her head.`"
