"SIMI VALLEY, CA — A man shot his mother and his stepfather before fatally shooting himself Tuesday in a Simi Valley home, officials said.
"Authorities have not released the names of any of the people involved. The Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Tuesday that the shooter was dead but would not release the man’s name.
"The shooting was reported about 7 a.m. in the 2700 block of Machado Street. Part of the street in the residential neighborhood was closed during the investigation and police spoke with neighbors.
"Police and the Ventura County Fire Department responded to a report of gunshots, Sgt. Graig Dungan said. The victims were taken to Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, according to the police. Detectives remained on the scene to investigate.
"Kris Carraway-Bowman, a hospital spokeswoman, said a 72-year-old woman who was shot in the stomach was listed in critical but stable condition. A 65-year-old man who was shot in the chest was listed in serious but stable condition.
"Police said there were three people inside the house at the time of the shooting. Police haven’t said what led to the shooting, Dungan said.
"He added that they are working to determine the motive."
