Shooter Dead, Victim Wounded In D.C. Incident

"WASHINGTON, DC — A man shot and wounded a 74-year-old relative before turning the gun on himself Tuesday morning, D.C. police said.

"Officers were called to a home in the 500 block of Quincy Street NW, blocks from the Georgia Avenue-Petworth Metro station, for reports of a shooting just before 6 a.m.

"Police believe the 54-year-old man shot the older man and then shot himself in the head. The shooter was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The victim was conscious and breathing when he was taken to an area hospital. There is no word on his condition.

"Investigators are working to confirm how the two are related. Their names have not been released.

"Neighbors said they'd never had any trouble with the men.

"`Everyone in the neighborhood knew them,` said one resident. `Some of the newer neighbors are a little louder, but no violent complaints. I never even saw them argue that much, so I'm really shocked.`"
