L.A. Slasher Expected To Live

"EAST LOS ANGELES, CA - A 27-year-old man is accused of stabbing his 25-year-old girlfriend to death in East Los Angeles and then slashing his own throat in a suicide attempt in front of arriving officers.

"Neighbors say the victim's two small children may have witnessed the attack.

"The ordeal began Wednesday afternoon when the victim and her onetime live-in boyfriend were arguing at a home in the 900 block of Eastman Avenue near Blanchard Street in East Los Angeles, according to the sheriff's department.

"When the man left the home, the woman contacted the sheriff's East Los Angeles Station, and deputies went to the home to take a domestic violence report, said Sgt. Diane Hecht of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Headquarters Bureau.

"Deputies were sent to the house a second time around 3 p.m. after neighbors called 911 and reported hearing a woman screaming.

"When deputies arrived, they saw the boyfriend standing in front of the doorway, holding a knife to his throat, Hecht said. He was ordered to drop the knife but slit his throat instead, she said.

"The woman, who suffered multiple stab wounds, was pronounced dead at the scene, Hecht said.

"Her name was being withheld pending family notification.

"The suspect, whose identity was not immediately released, was hospitalized Thursday and was expected to survive.

"Homicide detectives were expected to arrest the man and book him for murder once he was released from the hospital."
