911 Caller: "Please Hurry"


"DE KALB JUNCTION, NY - A Dekalb man apparently shot and killed his wife and then turned the gun on himself Thursday, according to St. Lawrence County sheriff's detectives.

"Detectives identified the dead people as Jeffrey Paquette, 43 and Denise Paquette, 44, 2657 County Route 19, Town of Dekalb.

"The 911 center in Canton received a phone call shortly before 9 a.m.. The caller, a man, said `Please hurry` and hung up, deputies said.

"When sheriff's deputies got to the house 10 minutes later, they knocked on the door but got no response.

"Deputies opened the door and saw Jeffrey Paquette lying on the floor with a handgun in his hand.

"Denise Paquette was slumped over in a chair next to her husband.

"Detectives said it appears each person died from one shot from a .357 caliber handgun registered to Jeffrey Paquette.

"Deputies and detectives were on scene all day, as was St. Lawrence County coroner R.B. Lawrence III. An autopsy will be done on both peple, sheriff Kevin Wells [said]."
