History Of Domestic Violence Results In Grisly Scene
"OAK LAWN, IL ― An Oak Lawn man who police said threatened to fatally shoot his wife less than a month ago followed through on that grim promise Thursday before turning the gun on himself.
"John Huladek, 52, and Bernadette Huladek, 49, of the 6800 block of West 96th Place in Oak Lawn, were both pronounced dead Thursday afternoon at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, a Cook County medical examiner's office spokesman said.
"A neighbor alerted police to the grisly scene at the Huladeks' home Thursday afternoon after hearing a loud popping noise, then coming outside to find the couple on the ground, near a garbage can, with gunshot wounds to their chests, Oak Lawn police Chief Bill Villanova said.
"The Huladeks' 9-year-old daughter was inside the family's home playing with a friend, but did not witness the shooting, Villanova said. She is now staying with relatives.
"Thursday's shooting capped a history of domestic violence for the Huladeks, who Villanova said had received police visits about their fighting before.
"It was just three weeks ago that Oak Lawn police had last visited the Huladeks' home, resulting in John Huladek's arrest for aggravated domestic assault, according to police.
"Police removed a semi-automatic pistol, two ammunition magazines and several boxes from ammunition from the home."
