"It Was Not A Random Act"

"DELTA TWP, MI - A woman shot by a man who then turned a gun on himself about 5 p.m. today was in surgery at a local hospital this evening, according to police.

"Eaton County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Adam Morris said the woman was shot twice before the man shot himself. He said the man died at the scene of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

"The woman’s condition was not available from police. Police on the scene said the man and woman -- both adults -- are believed to have known each other.

"`There was a relationship,` Morris said. `It was not a random act.`

"Police said the incident occurred about 5 p.m. in a neighborhood near Elmwood Drive.

"As police continued their investigation into the incident this evening, a body lie covered with a blood soaked sheet in the driveway of a residence in the 5100 block of Ivan Drive. The body has since been removed.

"Police said the incident occurred outside the residence.

"Mario Quintero, 33, of Lansing, said he was helping his sister-in-law move into the residence where the shooting occurred this afternoon, and left the area to get more of her belongings. When he came back shortly after 5:15 p.m. he said a friend of his sister-in-law had been shot and was being loaded into an ambulance, and a man was lying in the driveway.

"A bed frame and furniture remained in the yard this evening.

"A portion of Ivan Drive between Elmood and Mall Drive was closed to traffic for several hours this evening."
