Killer Breaks Window To Shoot Ex-Wife's Boyfriend

"WEST COLUMBIA, SC - A Columbia woman woke up to a nightmare Sunday morning as her boyfriend was shot dead by her ex-husband, according to West Columbia police.

"Investigators were at a home on Seminole Drive Sunday morning where 39-year-old Clyde Jacob Yarborough was killed.

"Officials believe 28-year-old Gerald Heyward Copeland broke a window to get into Yarborough's home around 7:56a.m. and shot him dead.

"Copeland fled the scene, but law enforcement found him a few minutes later in a car, dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"Authorities say the couple had been separated for several months and they are investigating whether Copeland and Yarborough had previous confrontations.

"The Richland County Sheriff's Department, West Columbia Police Department, and the Lexington County Coroner's Office are still investigating the incidents."
