"These Things Do Happen"

"LITTLE ROCK, AR — An 81-year-old Little Rock man appears to have fatally shot his wife before turning the gun on himself in what authorities are calling a murder-suicide.

"The bodies of Armistead Freeman and Gail C. Freeman were discovered inside their home at 99 El Dorado Drive after someone called 911 from the house to report the deaths. Authorities say Armistead Freeman may have made the call just before he killed himself.

"Police arrived minutes later and found the bodies of the elderly couple in the kitchen. They had apparent gunshot wounds.

"Hastings said there was no indication on the call about a possible motive.

"`It's a very nice neighborhood, the house is a very nice house,` Hastings said as investigators worked the scene. `... It is unusual but then these things do happen.`"
