Brothers Found Dead In Home

"SANTA PAULA, CA — Santa Paula police detectives are investigating a suspected murder/suicide involving two brothers.

"Police said that at about 7:55 a.m. Wednesday, they responded to a residence in the 1100 Block of Fern Oaks Drive regarding a call of two dead people discovered by a relative.

"Upon arrival, the officers entered and discovered the dead men in a back bedroom. After checking the residence for other people or victims, the officers secured the site and called detectives, authorities said. Detectives arrived and conducted an assessment of the scene, discovering that the two dead men had gunshot wounds to their upper bodies.

"Upon further investigation, it appeared a murder-suicide had taken place, authorities said.

"Detectives secured the residence and obtained a search warrant. Two district attorney's investigators were sent to assist, and a search of the residence was conducted.

"Evidence was seized, including a gun that was believed to have been used, authorities said. The Ventura County sheriff's criminal investigation unit assisted with processing the crime scene and the collection of evidence, authorities said.

"No motive has been determined, authorities said.

"Authorities identified one brother as Tom Halpin, 66, the other as Harry Halpin, 61. Both were Santa Paula residents."

  1. Tom & Harry Halpin were my friends. They were great guys, loving, gentle & down to earth. They both have been suffering with depression for the last couple of years. Tom was basically Harry's care giver. I think what happened was discussed between them. I doubt Tom killed his brother without his consent. God bless them both. I hope they find the peace that didn't have in life.
