Maintenance Man Finds Bodies
"MIDVALE, UT — Detectives on Saturday confirmed that they are investigating the shooting deaths of a Midvale couple as a case of murder-suicide.
"Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal identified the deceased as Katherine Elizabeth Head, 46, and Robert Milton Head, 56.
"A maintenance man at the Remington Apartments, 7400 S. State Street, called 911 at 8:05 p.m. Friday after spotting the couple’s bodies through a window of their unit. He reportedly had been asked by Mrs. Head’s mother to check on their welfare; she was concerned over not having heard from the couple recently.
"Arriving officers found a notice posted on the ground-level apartment’s door ordering the Heads to vacate the unit within three days. The apartment’s front door was locked and the officers forced entry.
"`Both Katherine and Richard were found inside the apartment in the bedroom area. They both appeared to have suffered from apparent gunshot wounds,` Hoyal said.
"UPD officers then secured the scene, notified homicide detectives and waited for issuance of a search warrant before conducting a more thorough search of the apartment beginning just before midnight.
"Police on Saturday were not releasing further details about what they found, including what specific injuries the deceased sustained beyond characterizing them as fatal gunshot wounds.
"`It appears as though this was a murder-suicide (but) the investigation is ongoing,` Hoyal said."
