Father And Daughter, 6, Found Dead
"WINSTON-SALEM, NC — Winston-Salem police found a 6-year-old girl and her father dead inside their home Thursday afternoon.
"Iza Lily Morris, 6, and Derek Morris, 32, had each suffered a single gunshot wound, police said.
"Investigators are looking into the possibility that the deaths were a murder-suicide, police Lt. Rob Cozart said. Police found a handgun in the house.
"Police are not looking for a suspect in their deaths, Cozart said.
"The bodies were found shortly before 3:30 p.m. in a house in the 5300 block of Old Rural Hall Road in northeastern Winston-Salem. According to Forsyth County tax records, the house is owned by Derek and Sarah A. Morris.
"Investigators learned that Morris was estranged from his wife, the mother of Iza, and that the couple was reportedly in the early stages of separating and discussing the custody of their daughter, Cozart said.
"Police are working with the Forsyth County medical examiner's office, and autopsies will be conducted later, Cozart said."
