Dinner Date Ends In Murder, Suicide

"CARMEL, NY — A Mahopac, N.Y. man shot and killed a man his estranged wife was seeing, then turned the gun on himself, police said.

"Michael Boccardi, 47, was squatting in the bushes near the Woodland Road home of Michael Purdy on Wednesday, when the latter came home, authorities said.

"Purdy and Boccardi's wife had dined out that night, according to a Carmel police press release released on Thursday.

"Carmel police say Boccardi sprang up and shot Purdy, 56, several times, including once in the head.

"Boccardi then scrambled into the passenger's seat of his wife's 2000 Mercury Sable that was parked in the driveway and shot himself in front of his wife, authorities said.

"Police recovered a .40 caliber semi-automatic pistol from the scene, which they say was registered to Boccardi, the release said."

  1. Is love worth killing for? I can never understand why people do this sort of thing.
