Neighbors Suspect Murder/Suicide

"COLONA, IL — Colona Police were investigating the death of a couple whose bodies were found in their apartment Saturday, November 12, 2011.

"The bodies of Martin and Kathleen Gardner were found just after 7 p.m. Both suffered apparent gunshot wounds.

"Neighbors said they believed it was a murder-suicide.

"A written statement issued Monday, November 14 by Colona Police supported the murder-suicide.

"`Indications are that this was a case of a homicide and suicide. However, the case remains under investigation,` said the written statement.

"An autopsy was planned."
