Couple With History Of Domestic Abuse In Critical Condition

"MIAMI, FL — Authorities say a man who’d been recently estranged from his wife showed up at her Flagami apartment Friday morning and stabbed her repeatedly.

"After the attack, the man then drove to his apartment less than 2 miles away and shot himself in the head.

"Both are in critical condition at the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, said Kenia Reyes, a spokeswoman for the Miami Police Department. Their names have not been released.

"The woman is expected to survive the attack, said Reyes. The man is not. Police have not released their names.

"It all started about 7 a.m. when the man arrived at the apartment building at 4725 NW Seventh St. where his wife and their three children lived, Reyes said. The couple married 19 years ago and had recently separated.

"At some point, the couple began arguing in a hallway in a common area on the building’s first floor.

"`The man grabs a knife and stabs her multiple times,` Reyes said.

"The couple’s children—ages 18, 9 and 7—were inside the fourth-floor apartment when the stabbing took place and do not appear to have been witnesses.

"The man then drove to his own apartment, an efficiency behind a home at 3675 NW First St. He attempted to commit suicide with a shotgun.

"The couple has a history of domestic violence, said Reyes, who could not immediately provide more details."
