Neighbors Make Horrifying Discovery
"SUMMERFIELD, FL — Investigators believe an elderly man may have killed his elderly wife before taking his own life in Summerfield Monday night.
"The Marion County Sheriff's Office said 74-year-old Elmo Hines shot and killed his wife, 77-year-old Doris Hines, in the couple's Stonecrest subdivision home.
"`Apparently his intentions were to murder his wife and to take his own life,` said Capt. James Pogue.
"According to the incident report, days before the bodies were found, Elmo Hines told a neighbor that he was going to pick his wife up from an assisted living facility.
"The neighbor told investigators Hines said he was going to `take care of the problem.`
"Neighbors said they heard noises Monday night but didn't know they were gunshots.
"`But they didn't know where it came from or anything else like that and so they just kind of dismissed it,` said Pogue.
"The neighbor said they noticed Hines' car hadn't moved so they looked through the windows of the home and made the horrifying discovery."
