"He Brought A Gun With Him"

"FORK UNION, VA — Two days after a shooting on Old Gravel Road in Fork Union left two people dead, police aren’t changing their original theory of the crime: murder/suicide.

"Jerry A. Palmer Jr., 41, died at the scene. Crystal A. Trent, 28, died the next day.

"Palmer and Trent were in a relationship, said Investigator Forrest Lawhorne, and had been arguing. There was evidence, Lawhorne said, that the disagreement had happened prior to Aug. 14.

"After Trent took her three older children to school and drove back to her home at 44 Gravel Hill Road, Palmer pulled his Bronco beside her Toyota sedan in the driveway. `He went there that morning to confront her,` said Lawhorne, who was one of the first officers on the scene. `He brought a gun with him.`

"Lawhorne said there was an altercation at Trent’s car, because the passenger side window was kicked out.

"`We found fragments of her cell phone in the driveway and throughout the front yard,` Lawhorne said. `He demolished it.`"
