"He Was A Good Man"

"MONTGOMERY, NJ — Authorities are investigating a possible slaying and suicide of an elderly couple early Friday morning at an estate on Belle Meade-Griggstown Road.

"The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office on Friday afternoon was waiting for autopsy results, but investigators already were categorizing the incident as a `murder/suicide` by gunshots.

"Investigators revealed few other details but a woman who identified herself as the couple's caregiver and who has lived at the home for about seven years said Friday that Eric Solomon had shot his wife, Marguerite, before shooting himself.

"The caregiver, who did not want to be identified, said she heard gunshots and alerted the couple’s daughter, who called police.

"`He was a good man. I never expected anything like this,` the caregiver said, wiping away tears as she sat outside the home Friday morning. `She did not deserve this. She is a Catholic and a good woman.`

"The couple had been contending with illness and physical weakness, she said.

"Police said they found the couple in a first-floor bedroom of the home after responding to the 911 call about 1 a.m."
