"Jamshedpur, India - A newly married tribal couple, fearful of social stigma, committed suicide after killing their infant son in Damukocha village under Dumaria police station of East Singhbhum district, police said today.

"One Salkhu Murmu (19) had married Pano (18) about four months ago. The bride had given birth to a baby son four days back as she was in advanced stages of pregnancy just before tying the nuptial knot.

"Unable to bear the stigma of giving birth to a child soon after the marriage, the couple committed suicide in the wee hours yesterday by hanging themselves after killing their son by giving him pesticide.

"Initially, they had tried to kill themselves by consuming the pesticide but vomitted it out soon."
