Victims Strangled In Rural Ohio

"CALDWELL, OH - A young boy, his mother and father were all discovered early this morning at their home on Hunters Cut Road near Belle Valley after the father, Theodore A. Bayly, 39, called saying he had killed his family and was going to kill himself.

"Noble County Sheriff Landon Smith said Bayly called his office just before 2 a.m. saying he had killed his wife, Janice, 40, and their son, Colton, 11 and told dispatchers where to find the bodies.

"Smith said the dispatcher attempted to talk to Bayly for seven minutes, but Bayly went ahead and shot himself on an embankment near the family’s mobile home.

"Colton and Janice were both strangled to death, Smith said. Colton was discovered in the backseat of a vehicle at the home and Janice was discovered inside the home, Smith said.

"Smith said Bayly said the family was having financial problems, which may have been a motive in the murders and suicide.

"Smith said he informed the Noble Local School District early this morning of Colton’s death so teachers and students could be prepared.

"`It’s tragic,` Smith said. `We’ve never had any dealings with this family. No 911 calls, no domestic violence calls. Nothing.`"
