Gunman Released Hours Before Killing

"Lafayette, LA - Neighbors were in shock Wednesday after a mother and son were found dead in their home on Clause Street in the early-morning hours.

"A relative of 79-year-old Joan Tyler and 54-year-old David Tyler found the bodies and alerted police. Both had suffered gunshot wounds.

"Police have released few details about what may have led to the shooting.

"Just a day before the shooting, David Tyler was arrested for simple battery for an alleged altercation with his mother at the residence.

"According to Mouton and an arrest report, the man allegedly pushed his mother to the ground.

"He was arrested by Lafayette police officers around 1 p.m. Tuesday.

"Officials at the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center say the man was released some time before 6 a.m. Wednesday.

"Lafayette Police Department spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton said Joan Tyler's other son alerted authorities about the shooting deaths around 7:20 a.m. Wednesday.

"Investigators are still trying to pinpoint when the shooting actually occurred and if anyone else was involved..."
