Fire And Death In Philly
"Philadelphia, PA - A North Philadelphia woman is murdered and her daughter seriously injured when a knife-wielding ex-boyfriend went on the attack, police said.
"It happened at a home in the 2000 block of North 13th Street Saturday.
"After he attacked the family, the victim's former boyfriend set the home on fire, investigators said...
"It's unclear what triggered the act of rage. Neighbors said the man stabbed the mother, identified as Yolanda Pritchett, in front of the children. When the oldest daughter tried to stop it, she was stabbed in the abdomen...
"`The fire's under control in just seven minutes, so they really had a rapid knockdown. But at that time, they found two victims upstairs,` said Fire Commissioner Lloyd Ayers.
"Both were dead in an apparent murder-suicide. Friends said Yolanda Pritchett was a medical technician. The mother of three leaves behind two girls, 11 and 9, and a 1-year-old boy.
"Police said the boyfriend was the father of the deceased woman's youngest child."
