Couple Had No History Of Violence
"Portland, OR - A southeast Portland man apparently shot his wife then killed himself this morning in their home next to David Douglas High School, Portland police said. The woman survived, calling 9-1-1 after the shootings to summon rescuers to her side.
"`It appears at this time that the man shot his wife then shot himself,` said Detective Mary Wheat, a Portland police spokeswoman. `But obviously, it's very early in the investigation.`
"The woman is expected to survive, Wheat said.
"Wheat said the woman called 9-1-1 about 9 a.m. reporting she had been shot by her husband. When officers went inside the house, they found the husband dead, she said. Police would not release names, saying relatives had yet to be notified.
"Neighbors said the husband and wife, both in their 40s, had lived at the home in 1100 block of Southeast 135th Avenue for at least 20 years. The husband worked for a security firm installing alarm systems. Court records do not indicate any history of violence between the husband and wife."
