"There Was A Lot Of Blood"
"TORONTO, ON, CA - A 27-year-old woman is dead and an injured man believed to be her brother is in custody after a murder-attempted suicide in a Riverdale apartment yesterday.
"Emergency crews were called to Unit 2 at 55 Munro St. -- a new co-op northwest of Broadview Ave. and Queen St. E. -- around 11:45 a.m. and found the woman suffering from fatal stab wounds, Toronto Police say. A man was also found in the home, apparently suffering from self-inflicted stab wounds.
"`There was a lot of blood,` Const. Tony Vella said, describing the scene of the senseless killing.
"He confirmed the incident was `domestic-related,` but wouldn't disclose the relationship of the man and woman.
"`It looks like a dispute between the two people at the residence. As a result, she sustained serious injuries (and) he sustained injuries as well,` Vella said. `Anything's possible at this point.`
"However, neighbours said the pair were brother and sister.
"`He seemed a little off,` said one man, who lives nearby and didn't want his name used. `I think he might be mentally ill.`
"`I'm scared of him,` said another neighbour, who also didn't want her name used. `He should have been getting some help. It's not right.`
"`That poor woman,` she added of the slain woman, who she and others knew only as Jamilla.
"After removing the woman from her home, paramedics worked feverishly to save her as residents watched in shock. The woman was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead, becoming the city's 19th murder victim of the year."
