High School Horror
"Calcutta, IN - The owner of a high school in Belghoria, in the northern fringes of Kolkata, strangled his wife and two minor children on Friday night before ending his own life on the railway tracks. Police claimed that 38-year-old Asit Bhanja owed nearly Rs 1 crore ($208,333 US)to banks, financial institutions, friends, relatives and guardians. Mounting debt, arising from an extravagant lifestyle, could have forced him to take this step, believe senior officers.
"Bhanja lived with wife Gayatri (30), son Priyam (7) and daughter Priya (5) within the complex of Derozio Mission High School in Belghoria's Jatin Das Nagar. Both children were physically and mentally challenged. Bhanja's in-laws also lived in the same house...
"It was initially thought that Bhanja had killed his family and run away. Even as the bodies were being removed to the morgue, reporters present at the spot received information from Government Railway Police that the body of an unidentified male was lying on the tracks near Belghoria station. Neighbours pieced together the sequence of events and rushed to the spot. Though the body lying on track 4 was badly mutilated, they identified it as that of Bhanja."
