Shooting Rampage Leaves 5 Dead In Arizona


"YUMA, AZ — A 73-year-old US gunman has shot and killed four people in Arizona before turning the gun on himself.

"The Yuma Police department said suspect Carey Hal Dyess of Yuma, apparently shot and killed one person in the city and three people in Yuma County before shooting himself, the Yuma Sun reported.

"Another person was injured and flown to hospital.

"Yuma police spokesman Clint Norred would not confirm the identity of any of the victims, but lawyers in Yuma said one victim was attorney Jerrold Shelley, who was shot and killed.

"The Yuma County Sheriff's Office was called to the first scene early, when the body of a woman was found in a yard.

"Initial reports on the police scanner said the woman may have suffered a gunshot wound.

"About 9.20am, police were called to a shooting in the 300 block of 2nd Avenue in Yuma.

"Two more shootings were then reported in the Wellton area, followed by a report of a self-inflicted gunshot wound near Blaisdell off Highway 95.

"The gunman's body was found by police at 11.30am. He died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

"The Yuma Sun has not been able to confirm the location of the sixth shooting."
