Confrontation Ends With Murder/Suicide

"HIGHLAND, CA — Homicide investigators are characterizing the shooting deaths of two people this morning in Highland as a murder-suicide possibly prompted by an impending divorce.

"San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies received a report at 9:27 a.m. that the bodies of Jesus Figueroa, 59, and Elizabeth Figueroa, 55, had been found in the driveway of the home in the 27200 block of Clifton Avenue, southeast of Pacific Street and Palm Avenue, the Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.

"Both bodies showed evidence of gunshot wounds, the department said.

"Investigators believe that sometime this morning Jesus Figueroa arrived at the home and confronted Elizabeth Figueroa. The couple was in the process of a divorce.

"During the confrontation, Jesus shot Elizabeth to death and then turned the gun on himself, the department said. The time of the shootings has not been determined because the department received no reports of shots being heard in the area."
