Two Dead After Argument During Cookout
"VERSAILLES, KY — A Versailles man killed his wife, then apparently turned the handgun on himself early Saturday morning, according to the Woodford County coroner Ron Owens who was called to the double fatality at 183 Dunroven.
"Katie McDaniel Coomer, 28, a former cook at Holly Hill Inn was dead of a gunshot wound to the head, Owens said. Lying beside her in the hallway was her husband, Eric Coomer.
"Their young children, Sara Jane Coomer and Seth Douglas Coomer, were sleeping in a back bedroom and taken out afterward unharmed, he said.
"According to Owens, the Coomers had been grilling out late with Eric's father, Marty Coomer, when an argument began.
"Owens said Marty Coomer was outside when he heard a gunshot. According to Marty Coomer's account, Eric Coomer said `I shot her and I'm not going to prison for the rest of my life. Look here.` Then shot himself in the head, Owens said.
"Alcohol is believed to have been involved. No charges have been filed. Woodford County officials said no report on the incident was available Sunday."
