Two Hospitalized In Attempted Murder/Suicide

"SEDALIA, MO — An incident in Sedalia resulted in two people being airlifted to a Columbia hospital with gunshot wounds.

"Shortly after 9 p.m. last night, the Sedalia Police Department received calls about shots being fired in the 1600 block of South Carr Street in Sedalia.

"The suspect, whom Sedalia police identified as Harry J. Young, 39, allegedly drove past his estranged wife as she was sitting in her vehicle in front of 1611 S. Carr with a man and two small children. Sedalia police identified the woman as Kellie M. Young, 24

"Police said Harry Young turned his vehicle around and drove back to the woman's location. Young reportedly got out of his vehicle and fired into the victim's vehicle, striking her in the arm and torso, police said. Witnesses said the suspect also attempted to shoot the man sitting in the vehicle's passenger seat.

"The man in the vehicle was able to run away from the scene and was not injured, police said. Neither child in the vehicle was shot.

"Police said that when Harry Young attempted to leave the scene in his vehicle, he was stopped by a Sedalia police officer. As the officer was speaking to the man, the suspect shot himself in the head.

"Both victim and suspect were taken via helicopter to University Hospital.

"As of this morning, Harry Young was listed in critical condition, and Kellie Young was in serious condition."
