Murder/Suicide On The Interstate

"St. George, UT - A man and woman wanted in the slayings of four people in North Carolina died Tuesday night in an apparent murder-suicide and fiery crash on Interstate 15.

"Washington County Sheriff Kirk Smith said when the suspects in the vehicle were pulled from the wreckage they were both found to have bullet wounds to the head.

"Smith said police had been on the lookout for a BMW with Wisconsin license plates believed to be carrying the suspects. Deputy Steve Hatzidakis spotted the vehicle about 11:20 p.m. and pulled it over on the freeway about 20 miles north of St. George.

"However, as police approached the car, the BMW bolted off the right side of the freeway then swerved back onto the roadway striking another vehicle before again leaving the interstate. It then careened down an embankment and up onto another, traveling about 75 feet before coming to a halt and catching fire.

"As deputies with fire extinguishers tried to douse a flames, the unidentified man and woman were pulled from the wreck, dead.

"`Both had gun shot wounds to the head,` Smith said."
