Couple Found Dead After SWAT Stand-Off

"SANTA YNEZ, CA - Two people were found dead this afternoon inside a house in Santa Ynez where a stand-off occurred after reports of an altercation and shots being fired.

"A man and a woman, whose identities were not released, were found dead inside the two-story home in the 3400 block of Manzana Street, according to sheriff’s Lt. Phil Willis.

"At about 1:15 p.m., more than two hours after the incident began, deputies spotted a man on the floor inside the house, probably dead, according to emergency radio traffic. They made entry a short time later to check on the condition of a woman also believed to be in the house and found the bodies.

"Deputies were called to the scene about 11 a.m. after a neighbor reported hearing a verbal altercation, and then shots fired, Willis said.

"Emergency radio traffic indicated the incident might involve a man who threatened to kill his wife and himself, but Willis said he could not confirm that.

"Multiple blocks around Cuesta and Manzana streets were closed as officials tried to make contact with the man inside the home. About half a dozen nearby homes also were evacuated.

"Nearly a dozen patrol cars, as well as fire engines and an ambulance, swarmed the block of Cuesta Street between Tivola Street and Santa Ynez Park as a county sheriff's helicopter flew overhead during the stand-off."
