Estranged Couple Found Shot
"ALTON, IL — A man apparently shot his estranged wife to death Monday night at an apartment on Washington Avenue before turning the gun on himself as officers arrived at the scene.
"Alton Police Chief David Hayes said the fatal shootings were “an apparent murder-suicide.
"`It’s an estranged husband and wife,` he said. `The scene is being worked by our detectives. It looks like we’ve got all the evidence to indicate just what it is.`
"The Alton Police Department received a call of an argument and shots fired at an apartment at 1011 Washington Ave. shortly after 9 p.m. Monday. The apartment building is adjacent to East Elementary School.
"`Uniformed officers arrived on the scene, approached the front door and saw through the window a female lying on the floor,` Hayes said. `As soon as they saw her, they heard another shot fired in the house. They found a male who suffered from a gunshot wound that appears to be self-inflicted.`"

I won't release anything the police haven't but the woman killed was my next door neighbor. She was a good woman and while I knew she was having troubles with her ex I never expected this. All I can say is that I hope she didn't suffer and that her two little boys can get through this.
