Death On The Interstate
"EAST ST LOUIS, IL - A shooting that closed down eastbound Interstate 64 for about two hours this afternoon has left two people dead.
"The shooting occurred just west of Illinois Route 3 in East St. Louis.
"The victims were Tommie Hill, 25, of East St. Louis, and Ashley Oliver, 25, of Cahokia, said Illinois State Police Sgt. Dave Wasmuth. Hill was pronounced dead at the scene. Oliver died at Memorial Hospital in Belleville.
"Police said Hill was the shooter. The weapon was a semiautomatic gun.
"Witnesses say a woman was running down the highway, banging on the hoods of cars asking for help, when a man ran up and shot her, then fatally shot himself.
"Police believe the couple were arguing in a red Oldsmobile Alero about 2 p.m. when the vehicle slowed or pulled to the side of the Interstate. The woman may have been shot once in the vehicle before jumping out and running down the highway.
"Hill's 7-year-old daughter was in the car and witnessed the shootings."
