Death At The Short Stop

"SCOTTSBURG, VA - A store owner says a woman and her husband are dead after a double shooting in Halifax County.

"The owner of the Short Stop Convenience Store on James D Hagood Highway in Scottsburg says around 1:30 Saturday afternoon he heard what sounded like a car backfiring. When Mike Patel looked outside, he saw a woman laying in the parking lot and man with a gun pointed to his chest. Patel says he then saw that man shoot himself. Patel says law enforcement officials told him both people died.

"While authorities are not commenting on what happened, witnesses say the victim and shooter were husband and wife.

"The store has since reopened."
